Griffiss International Airport, ROME, NY – The NY Uncrewed Aircraft Systems Test Site (NYUASTS) and the team at AX Enterprize, the firm that designed and manages the NYUASTS Operations Center, enjoyed a unique opportunity to put the Test Site’s advanced instrumentation and UAS monitoring capabilities to use observing a MQ-9 Reaper UAS landing at Griffiss International Airport on May 6.
Using the NYUASTS’s array of sensors and displays, combined with a direct view of the runways from the Test Site’s “fishbowl” observation room, AX Enterprize pilots and staff monitored the New York Air National Guard 174th Attack Wing’s MQ-9 as it circled and made a fully autonomous landing after its flight from Syracuse. The situation awareness capabilities provided by AX Enterprize’s SAFIRE-X air domain awareness technology, together with the Test Site’s advanced instrumentation, provided an unparalleled vantage point from which to observe the demonstration of the MQ-9’s new autonomous launch and landing capability.
